When is the Great Dorset Bike Ride?

Sunday 2nd June 2013. (This is the 34rd year!) Starts at the Top 'o Town Car Park, Bridport Road, Dorchester DT1 1XT at 10am.

Everyone is very welcome

Organised by Dorchester Cycles for anyone that wants to come along. Everyone is welcome and it's free! Just turn up on the day and have some fun. All types of cyclists take part in the ride from family groups to club riders, some take a couple of hours - some take all day!

It’s a 45 mile ride!

It used to be 60 miles, but the route was through Poole, very busy and not particularly safe. We took over the ride in the early 1990's and we shortened it to 47 miles. Unfortunately the cafe at Arne has closed, so unless you want to out to Arne for a picnic the route now stands at 45 miles. Don't be put off by the distance is really is an easy ride - take it easy and enjoy yourself! If you get away with the mass start at ten o’clock and finish at, say five o’clock that gives you seven hours to get round the route. You only have to average about 7mph. Take an hour out for meals etc and you still only have to average 8.5mph. Most cyclists can comfortably average 10mph.

Make a fun day of it!

Get together with friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues and get up a group and do the ride together. More banter, more jokes, the miles will fly by and you will have even more fun!

There are plenty of tea shops and Pubs on the route - the Orchard at West Holme (West Holme Garden Centre) are even offering a 25% discount to all riders in posession of a discount card given out before the start.

Detailed Route

Please note this year we will not be waymarking the route. Below you will find links for The Great Dorset Bike website, a Garmin Connect route file, a Map My Ride route file and a Google Maps link. A detailed description can be printed from the Great Dorset Bike Ride website, and a printed copy will be offered before the start!
